Moab, Utah.
Which I can't ever think of without the whole 'Utah Saints, U U U Utah Saints....' song going through my head.
Beautiful scenery. On this drive I always wish I knew more about Geology to understand the change in the rock formations as we move West.......
Oh and we saw this vehicle tonight, and I wondered how many kids they have in the back.
...suddenly makes my car look quite spic and span.
We stopped at a Starbucks as we headed out of Colorado and the kids remembered that was the same spot where Rory threw up last year...........
Anyhow,
the playlist was as bad as I thought, although having to
listen to MNBC on Sirius for an hour did slightly take the edge off it.
Friday = Las Vegas. City of Tack, here we come!
Seeing as we set off today on our road trip out to California, here are 13 things I bet I think along the way....
1. God I can't believe his playlist. This is dire. Surely he is going to move it on. How can he possibly like this drivel?
2. My kids have no idea how lucky they are watching these DVDs. But they are missing out on all this glorious scenery.
3. There are so many diseased trees out here. If they take them all down, as they say they will, it's going to change the landscape so much. Maybe this is why wildfires take care of things in a way - but don't fit in with man's use of the land?
4. I am getting so American. A pillow in the car. Please.
5. How much can I text before I start feeling sick I wonder?
6. Bloody hell, imagine having to grow up in such a small place like this - you'd go INSANE!
7. He is so going to get a ticket. If I say anything he'll go ballistic. But he is way over the speed limit.
8. I don't get Vegas at all. Why would people choose to live here?
9. I have never seen so many billboards for quickie divorces (around Vegas). This must be for when people have sobered up and realised what they did the night before maybe?
10. I've missed California. It feels like home in a way. It was where we were supposed to live for just 2 years before going home to UK. I would move back here in a heartbeat.
11. Jack in the box!!
12. Should we drive past out old flat? Just to look?
13. What time is it in England? Plus 8 now....
In the last 24 hours I have....
1. Listened to a man apologise to me for catching some of my 'Scottish brogue' and speaking in a Scottish accent himself. Except I am not Scottish, have no Scottish accent and he sounded 100% American.
2. Bought two Nintendo DSIs even though I only need one.
3. Looked through my Wedding Album again, although I had to look in 4 different places before I found it.
4. Put 3 Hannah Montana CDs through the washing machine in a colored wash (accidentally).
5. Spoken to someone about back, crack and sack waxing techniques......(not the Hubby).
6. Increased my home insurance to a $10 000 deductible.
7. Given away 50+ t-shirts.
8. Asked a complete stranger if she knew she was wearing 2 different shoes. She didn't - she'd gotten dressed in the dark!
9. Held a cup for someone to pee in.
10. Eaten half a box of After 8 mints.
and in the next 24 hours I will
11. Get the oil changed in my car.
12. Tidy up for the babysitter (I know......)
13. Pack again for the 6 of us for 2 weeks away.
14. Get to the bottom of my ironing basket even IF IT KILLS ME!!!
15. Get a Brazilian.
16. Meet my best friend for a kid free meal.
17. Talk to another friend about whether she is getting a divorce after all.
18. Drop some dough at the Lancome counter.
19. Fill in endless forms for back to school for the kids.
20. Wrap up a birthday present.
MY LIFE IS SOOOOOOOO EXCITING. What about you?
Far from being upbeat. Not released as a track so no proper video... . . . . . but the lyrics are spot on.....
Listen through..
Breathe you out.
Breathe you in.
You keep coming back to tell me you're the one that could have been.
And my eyes see it all so clear.
It was long ago and far away but it never disappears.
Try to put in the past.
And hold on to myself
I don't wanna dream about
All the things that never were.
Baby, i couldn't live without.
Out From Under.
And i dont wanna feel the pain
What good would it to me now?
I'll get it all figured out.
When i'm out from under.
And my eyes see it all so clear
It was long ago and far away but it never disappears.
Breathe you out
Breathe you in
You keep coming back to tell me you're the one that could have been.
And my eyes see it all so clear
It was long ago and far away but it never disappears.
Try to put in the past.
And hold on to myself
We are up here in the mountains for a few days. It is only 1 1/4 hours drive from our house, but it is a lot cooler up here - far more agreeable. Yesterday when we left home it was 99 degrees - when we got up here it was about 74. Far better.
The place up here is quite large and on 3 floors, It has 3 bedrooms. We have the kids' room on the top floor with our room. The kids room is spacious enough to have 2 sets of bunkbeds in but the 'rule' is you have to be at least 5 to go on the top bunk (ie, out of bounds for Rory just now). We also have a guest room on the middle floor which we call the 'moose room' as it has lots of moose stuff (it IS the mountains, it's not quite as cheesy as it sounds....). The moose room has a double bed and also an extra wide chair which also turns into a bed. It is usually where we stick the inlaws when they are here as it has an en suite and a large patio at the back.
Sometimes, hubby lets one of the other kids sleep in there - still haven't quite worked out his logic as it is, sometimes rather than always. Whilst the kids can easily share a room, their bed times are quite staggered so there is some strategic planning involved. Last night, Bee got the moose room, tonight it is Paddy's turn. So Rory is in a lower bunk, Mac is in our bed, and Bee and Paddy are watching tv in the moose room (he lets her in on 'his' night, she wouldn't dream of having him in there on 'her' night.... In a while, when Mac is asleep we'll carry him in and up the ladder to the top bunk,,,,,Bee will go in the other top bunk and tonight, Paddy has his own room. Complicated huh?
Well tomorrow night, Mac should be in the moose room, but the last time he slept in there was with the in-laws... and he was on the sofa bed. Half way through the night he claimed the room was too hot and went back into the bunk room. So now, he is not too thrilled with having the room tomorrow night. He thought that Bee and Paddy could pay him if they wanted the room for another night. Paddy offered him $2 and a pack of Ben 10 cards. Bee offered him $2 and TWO packs of Ben 10 cards. Mac thought for a bit and said they could both give him the money and the cards and both sleep in there - one in the bed,, one in the sofa bed. This offer was declined with outrage from the two older siblings as it's the ROOM TO THEMSELVES they are after.... So Mac is 'sleeping' on it (except I can hear him singing 'Beat it' upstairs). He will make his decision tomorrow. Actually I think he just wants to see if they'll improve their bids! What an Arthur Daley kid!!
Today was busy. Lots of phone calls, trips with the kids......orthodontics (please let's hope we don't have to get oral surgeons involved....), opticians as Mac's glasses don't fit right, picking up 100s of photos, grocery shopping, eating out with the kids, mailing 12 parcels. Usual stuff.
Also I was fielding calls from Insurance Reps as I am still trying to sort out our Home Insurance......Grr. We were due to renew in May. Yes, this May, but the company hadn't worked out our premium, assures us we are still covered and that they will get the figures out to us soon....... 10 weeks later and they deem to get back to us...and our premiums have gone up ....by $800!!! We have made no claims in the 5 years we have lived here - so all in all we are quite miffed at their attitude hence shopping elsewhere....which I need to do, like more than yesterday.
But every time the phone rang the boys were all wanting to know if it was for them - even the 3 year olds would start harping on about his pal Suzanna and if it was Suzanna's mummy on the phone. Then giving out loads of figures, trying to fax things and watch the kids 'ONE OF THOSE DAYS.'
I would just get off the phone and go to put the sprinklers on for the kids, or fold laundry or get the mail, and the phones would go again.. so this was my solution.
Then hubby texted to say he was finishing work early.....
to go to the movies!!!!!
Tonight I have been having hot on line conversations with Mareesh as in Dell technical Support as I have broken something on this laptop again. I know, my electrical curse strikes again. Shredder was also making 'strange unhealthy' noises tonight after I used it...... Hubby remarked that I really shouldn't be allowed on airplanes either given my TALENT (I prefer the positive approach) at disabling mechanical objects.......
Just another day..........
