Simon, Simon....not bad for a fu**ing Monday night
Yesterday was a real whirlwind day...so much going on - a ridiculous timetable to pick people up, drop them off etc. Hubby was out to Chicago so no help really. As he left around 7am and I was yelling at the kids to get dressed so we wouldn't be late for school, I reminded hubby I would be late, he'd have to pay the babysitter. He had completely forgotten that I had had this arranged for weeks. But if I forget where he is flying off to - wow that seems grounds for divorce.
So - it was Rory's last day of pre-school as they have finished for the WHOLE BLOODY SUMMER - well he has as he only goes Mondays - Mac finishes Friday. But I also had to go and get thank you gifts for the teachers - there wasn't a huge selection of flowers left after Mother's Day so I ended out getting gift cards for iTunes and Starbucks - they are young gals - I think this will be more to their liking.
By mid afternoon Mac, Rory and I were killing time in a way before picking the older ones up from Chess club so we went to buy some plants etc for the garden when the storm started up and everything was flying about off the shelves in the nursery department of Home Depot.(the wind). All their trees for sale - which tempted me on the way in - were all blown horizontal as we headed back to the car. Was unsure Hubby would make it back to the airport with the freaky winds (he was in a small jet) but they had a bumpy if somewhat delayed landing.
Picked up other kids - was trying to rush home for the sitter coming at 5.30. But the wild winds had affected loads of traffic lights so it took way longer to get home than it should have. I was shattered by the time we were back but had to get changed and find some energy before heading out.
Sitter arrived. I told her how there was homework to be done but they had at least all been fed etc. I told her my destination - to go to a Duran Duran concert. My sitter is 21 - but she did well hiding her smirk and said it would be fun. I felt about 80. Bee was earwigging and got the gist of them being an old band.
"Are they from the 30s?'she asked?
"I wasn't around in the 30s Bee' I answered through gritted teeth.
Anyhow - went to meet up with one of my British pals and she was even more run ragged than me. Didn't help that on the way out her cell phone carrier had called telling her she had amassed charges of $481 for one month and how exactly did she want to pay for that.....
It was a cold, wet and windy night but we all met up in a hotel bar with no intntion of rushing over for the support act at all (not even sure who they were) but we got in just as the stage had been set for Mr Le Bon and co. Good seats however the spods behind us didn't wnat anyone to stand up and dance (God forbid you would block their view) so we actually moved over to the stairs. Found out it is not easy to dance on a 10 inch step, in the dark, in heels but still we had a fab time. I was also intrigued whether the woman close by was one of the teachers' from Mac's pre-school - cos if it was she was chewing the face off someone who was not her husband.
Despite them playing loads of tracks from their latest album - which was ok it must have been a tad demoralising for them that they got the biggest response from playing their older songs. Reflex, Girls on film, View to a kill. It was pretty fantastic. A big mix of people - ;lots of middle aged moms and then quite a few couples. Saw some little boy who had been dragged along by his young parents - he can't have been more than 4 or 5 and the concert didn't finish until after 11 - just didn't seem right for the poor lad.
Mr Le Bon still looked pretty good (I googled to find out he is 50 this year) all that bleaching over the years has not done any harm to his hair it seems. Despite having recently seen a very unflattering snap of him in tracky bottoms and crocs, he scrubbed up nicely in his concert clothes - was a terribly big flirt with the audience. I wonder what you have to do to arrive in a new city, on a dull dreary day, do your boring sound checks then try and hype yourself up on a Monday night. One of my pals had apparently had a poster of John Taylor on her ceiling as a kid - the joke was she should get another at this concert for her bedroom now - she didn't.
They played for almost 2 hours with the chat in between. They got our city right in their shout outs at least. And they told us, the crowd we weren't bad at all for a fu**ing Monday night. Also told the front row that there were lots of beautiful people there - maybe they were flashing? He assured us there were beautiful people further back but he didn't have his contacts in so he wasn't sure. It was all a really good laugh. My British pal is always the life and soul of the party - always have a great time when out with her (her sitter hadn't even heard of Duran Duran)!
Made it home to all in bed. Sitter had obviously been paid off and the kids were all asleep as was hubby.
This morning we had a very brief conversation with him making sarcastic comments about the concert. He also told me there was a parcel for me - he guessed it was either a book or a bra (no difference in weight then). It was indeed a book.
Bee this morning asked if I had had a good time at 'Jam Jam' (that is seriuosly what she thought they were called). She asked if there were a lot of 80 year olds there - apparently hubby had told her that it was a concert for saddos and most of the people there would be 80 at least. If I get any photos fowarded I'll include them later.
