Cold Turkey
Got my lie in after all today - although Mac was in our room at 5.45am yes AM telling hubby they needed to get in the car boot to get his stone out...that would be the 12 x 12 stone I had carried on Friday from his pre-school - which had a hand print and a foot print on - and his name - as my Mother's Day gift. Apparently Mac had then decided this was not enough of a Mother's Day gift after all and he then grabbed a few Incredibles figures from his room and wanted to wrap them up....
Anyhow I got out of bed just before 8am....quite a lie in in our house. Paddy was proud to tell me he had made me breakfast at the kitchen table and Hubby came in looking shattered, exclaiming there were no clean spoons at all in 'this house.' The dishwasher decided not to run during the night it seems - excuse to therefore be an arse first thing in the morning. Later in the day he told me he just doesn't like coming down to a messy kitchen on a morning. Did I tell you he was an ARSE? (and there were clean spoons in another drawer).....
So I gulped down a bit of Paddy's breakfast (made with a lot of milk and a lot of love) and then opened cards and gifts. All irreplaceable. Then hubby announced he had to watch some terribly important football (soccer) match but he would go and get me a Starbucks at half time. Mmm. So he started watching his 'game' and all of a sudden there were lots of expletives etc. Cable had gone out. So it seems.
He fumed. He went to Starbucks and saw a Comcast (our cable provider) truck at the house next door - that is the snotty neighbours from yesterday's party. So I was ordered to call Comcast who said everything was working at our house.....erm no....then checked and said they were running a new cable line next door which was why our cable was down...but they'd soon be finished.
They were. They drove off leaving next door with fab cable connection no doubt....and us with nothing. No tv, no INTERNET - zilch. A few more calls to Comcast who pressed what buttons they could at their end and then arranged for a tech to come out...today at least.
It was actually quite nice in a way not having tv or Internet to fall back on. The weather was great - we played out a lot. We had Chinese food for lunch. We read a little, worked in the garden....then the tech came just before 5pm and found that the idiot Comcast guy from the morning had cut our cable line - hence no connection. We now have a new temporary cable lying across our lawn and things are up and running again....and the guy is 'supposed to' come back tomorrow and fix things properly. Riiiight.
But in a way I missed it. The 'I'll just check my e-mail when he has his nap' or the 'let's see what Jenna Bush looked like in her Wedding dress then' moments. (Very nice I thought personally).
But I was sooo glad it was up and running again. Plus I got to check times for the movies as I went out tonight and saw 'Then She found me.' Ok ish.
Now feeling pretty awake after the 'lie in' though.....

Glad you got a lie-in at least. I wish I'd had one this morning, I'm a bit worse for wear after our impromptu garden party last night.
Currently waiting for the drainage company to turn up. God knows when...
I didn't know lie-in. I get it, tho. We say sleeping in. And, good luck with the stupid capable company.
I agree. I thought Jenna's dress was very elegant. And, I'm proud she chose to do it her way, keeping it low key...could've been very over the top.
DON'T run your dishwasher at night.
There was a much longer comment than that, don't know why it's not showing. Running your dishwasher or washing machine at night is one of the largest causes of home fires. We know a family who completely lost their home, and nearly lost one of their kids, their dishwasher went on fire while they were all in bed, thankfully the dogs woke them up. The firebrigade said that they are a major cause of home fires.
Actually I think Midwife Muse's fire was her dishwasher, now I come to think of it. She lost her cats. :-(
